  • Many trails allowed dogs, just not the boardwalks since they are used by alligators sunning themselves. During the week was very quiet this time of year.  more »

  • This is a beautiful area! We came in December with two friends to do some canoing and it was stunning! The river is the only portion of the Wildlife Refuge that we saw, but I'm sure the entire Refuge is just as beautiful. There was a lot of wildlife and we were the only canoes on the water, so it was very peaceful. We did not canoe the entire Loop, we ended up canoeing part way and stopping at an area that branches off from the main river and ends at a dead end which has a floating dock that is partially covered and has a picnic table. Also of note, there is an entrance fee, but the lady at the booth was nice about the fact that we did not have cash and she allowed us to go into the visitor center to pay the fee.
  • If you're visiting the swamp, this is the place to go instead of the other entrances. There's more to do and see here, prices are reasonable, and staff is super nice and helpful. The 90-minute boat tour is worthwhile if you're not paddling on your own.
  • Great experience. Best time to come is early fall and spring-cooler temperatures, less gnats, and greater likelihood of seeing critters if you plan to arrive as soon as refuge opens in the morning. Bring your camera, rent canoes or kayaks, or go on a motor boat tour. Great adventure for children and adults. Have a real adventurešŸ¤ .
  • Good family fun. Especially love the pioneer days event. I do wish they still held the Yule log event at Christmas time. I really loved that as a kid.
  • Visited around Oct 25th. Weather was great. Barely any bugs maybe because of the breeze.entry fee 5 dollars per CAR. Did a boat tour 1.5 hrs for 20 dollars not Inc tip. Was great. You can also rent canoes, kayaks and I think bicycles. Very picturesque on the water. Would visit again.
