Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Area, Florence

(4.5/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Projecting the strongest light on the Oregon coast, Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Area is part of a state park. Perched on a small peninsula with boulders that act as natural wave breakers, the lighthouse is a beacon for many seafarers. From the building's deck, you can see land that is thick with fir trees, making a striking contrast with the deep blue water. Tours begin on the first floor of the keeper's quarters and end on the deck of the lighthouse. Tours are free, donations are welcome, and parking requires a per-vehicle fee. Consider taking an extra day to tour the area so you can stay a night at the inn inside the keeper's quarters. Arrange your visit to Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Area and discover more family-friendly attractions in Florence using our Florence itinerary maker.

  • Super awesome visit, gorgeous view, friendly atmosphere and all around great people and experience. You have to see to believe.
  • Go! Short hike, gorgeous views and beach! Lots of sea lions in the water surfing. Quick drive from Florence and close to Sea Lion Cave.
  • The walk from the parking lot is not for the faint of heart. Don't try to rush, just enjoy the hike and the views as you climb to the top where the lighthouse is located. Once there you will be glad y...  more »

  • It was a beautiful view, but the lighthouse itself was inaccessible when we were there. With the lighthouse closed, there's not much to do except look at the lighthouse and the parking lot. But it is a good view.
  • This place is beautiful and right on the beach. My wife and I go here nearly every time we are in Florence. Might be a good place for a date.
  • An easy half mile uphill ocean-view walk led to this beautiful landmark where a funny and knowledgeable tour guide took us inside the lighthouse (but not to the top).
  • Beautiful location - watched a pod of whales breaching just off the coast. Absolutely lovely!
  • One of the most beautiful spots on the Oregon coast. If you pass through at night, take the hike up to the lighthouse and see it in action.
