Between 1908 and 1938, the Coconino County Hospital for the Indigent housed and cared for the county’s poor and sick. Today the Hospital building serves as the primary museum for the Northern Division of the Arizona Historical Society, dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of Flagstaff and Northern Arizona. The museum features exhibits on the historical development of the region, a look at early livestock ranching, homesteading, and lumbering, as well as other changing exhibits. Highlights include an iron lung, a tortilla making machine, a Baldwin articulated locomotive, and a Santa Fe RR caboose.

    Always has great displays from local families . There is a cabin that they moved piece by piece to the property . Great displays that change on local topics.  more »

    It's a house on outskirts of Flagstaff. Bus route 5 from Downtown Connection Centre, and about 6 minute walk from Amtrak and Shuttle drop off. It's a nice museum, but it's really not what I expected! ...  more »

    A great small museum with lots to see. Usually these types of museums my kids are in and out in 1/2 an hour. We were there for easily 3 hours. They have a junior curator activity that was fun for us all as well. Plus-I’ve seen lots of retired trains with cabooses, but this is the only place I’ve seen where you can actually go inside the caboose! As a train lover this was big for me. I highly recommend a visit while you’re in Flagstaff. .

    We love this place. So much fun and the junior curator challenge was a real challenge. No 12 train and the cabin are wonderful. Best of all was the staff. Friendly and knowledgeable. Also they gave us an exceptional rec for a local lunch spot that was right on. Take your kids here to the pioneer toy room. Our girls didn't want to leave. Thank you to the Flagstaff Historical Society. Your museum is fantastic.

    We went to the wool and fiber festival the grounds were clean all the people were embracing and had create new ideas. It was a very fun day even got to see llamas camels alpacas and a yak. We will go again on the first week end in June

    This was a wonderful stop on our trip! If you're a history buff or just like learning about Arizona History, I highly recommend coming here. Besides the main house, which used to be a hospital, there is a barn, the train,and several other buildings to check out.

    Cool museum and worth visiting. Great for adults and kids. Fabulous pictures and memorabilia, and we enjoyed an on-site blacksmith demonstration.
