Flagstaff Nordic Center

Tucked into the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest about 15 miles from downtown Flagstaff, this Nordic oasis has most of the common attributes one would associate with a good cross country ski center anywhere else in the country. Flagstaff Nordic Center has a full 40km of non-redundant trails, more if you count portions of trails that you have to repeat to reach more distant loops. The trails wind through some of the largest Ponderosa pine stands in the state with the ever-present aspen, the other dominant species. Trails are named for terrain features found throughout the region, most of which are named after significant individuals and historic figures.

Winter Happenings:

Throughout the months of December through March (weather permitting) the Nordic Center keeps their trails groomed for cross country skiing. In addition to cross country ski rentals they offer snowshoe rentals and fat tire snow bike rentals. Their yurts and cabins, placed elegantly amongst the landscape, are also available for a unique style of camping. Rates at offgridgetaways.com

Summer Happenings:

During the romantic months of monsoon Arizona summer the Nordic Center offers rentals of their cabins and yurts dispersed amongst the property. They also rent out their property for special events and weddings.

  • It was a blast! The trails were well groomed and though it was a busy day we were able to have the trail "to ourselves" most of the time.  more »
  • Had a fabulous stay in one of the backcountry Yurts! A mile and half snowshoeing to an isolated yurt in a winter wonderland. The wood stove kept us warm and toasty, and the view of the stars from insi...  more »

  • Held our daughter's wedding at this location in September 2017. It was GORGEOUS. The venue is amazing with space for the wedding party to ready on site, hold ceremony in meadow and reception on site - VERY convenient and absolutely stunning. It's not inexpensive and you have to do the lion's share of the work yourself - but it definitely delivered a picturesque and memorable wedding for all. I would highly recommend - provided you can afford to hire help or are able to DIY with help from friends and family. Love this place.
  • This place is the best. Yurts for rent and snow bikes, snow shoe, Xcountry skiing. Great place running events as well. Great place
  • Love it here. They offer a variety of staying accommodations. We stayed in the yurt and it was great. They supply the wood for the fireplace and also sleeping pads. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. We rented snow shoes right on site and hiked around for two days.
  • So much fun! Very well maintained trails and gear for rent. Good stuff for anyone looking to do anything in the snow that doesn't require a steep slope
  • A great place to head out to and get a break from the doldrums of the city. Plus you can pack out a yurt and see no one for pretty much the whole time you are out there.
