Blanchard Springs Caverns, Fifty Six

4.9
#1 of 84 in Nature in Arkansas
Explore living limestone caves when you delve into Blanchard Springs Caverns. Guides will lead you through deep caves, referred to as "living" due to their constantly changing state from dripping water. You can choose the intensity and difficulty of the caverns you tour. On the Dripstone Trail, view a wide range of formations and cave creatures, such as salamanders and crickets. This trail is accessible to strollers and wheelchairs, though strong assistance will be needed. Discovery Trail has lots of steps, so you will need to be mobile, but it takes you much deeper and features an underground stream. If you're adventurous, take the Wild Cave Tour, where you explore undeveloped sections of the cave. For this one, you will need to be in good physical shape, have sturdy boots, and be ready to crawl and get dirty. • My family has visited numerous caverns and this is one of our top picks. The guides are great and make sure after the tour you go hike/ splash around in the actual springs.  more »

  • The family and I took advantage of a rainy morning to go indoors, and visit the caverns. We are a family of 7, with 5 children, ages ranging from 9 to 19. We all enjoyed the Discovery tour. Though they say over 700 steps, most are actually downward, a little less than half are upward. The caverns are cool, so dress warm, and the concrete can be a little slippy. The guide was very informative and the views are tremendous. The end is not the beginning, so when you leave you enter a bus that will take you back to the cave entrance/ticket counter where the cars await. Price is excellent.
  • My oh my what spectacular scenery. This is a must see if you are in this area. We took the 1.2 mile tour and went 290 ft down. The cavern is huge and has plenty of beautiful views. By far the largest cavern I've ever been in and we visit at least 2 or 3 a year. If you have time and have a good pair of hiking boots go for the 5hr tour that takes you on a spelunking adventure off of the guided tour. We have already made plans to come back for that adventure.
  • Awesome place to visit with family. My young children even loved it. I highly recommend visiting if you are anywhere near here in Arkansas. Just remember to wear good walking shoes and a jacket. If you are visiting on a weekend, you may check ahead of time to see if tickets are available so you don't have to wait around an hour for the next group to start.
  • The Blanchard Springs Caverns were amazing!! Our tour guide Brian Thomas was excellent. He spoke loud and clear, had a great sense of humor, was very knowledgeable and made our tour great. He even volunteered to take family/couple pictures for everyone on the tour. Also the price for tickets were very reasonable $10.50 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-15 under 6 were free. It was worth every penny. It's a must on the things to do in Arkansas list. Also the drive there was absolutely beautiful.
  • What a beautiful cave! And the Forest Service does an excellent job of stewardship of the caverns with friendly reminders during the tour for people not touch the formations. Telling us why we need to keep our hands off the formations helped. Our tour guide for the shorter of the 2 tours was absolutely excellent and perhaps the best cave guide I've had (and I've toured a lot of caves). I liked how he (Aaron I think) linked the decline of the bat population to the 1811-12 New Madrid earthquakes that closed off entrances due to rubble falling into the openings. Yet the formations underground remained unharmed. Blanchard Springs Caverns is well worth a visit. I'd like to go again.
