The third-highest bridge in the United States and the fourth-longest single-arch span in the world, New River Gorge Bridge offers views of the New River below and the gorge it has carved in the Appalachian Mountains. Before crossing the 924 m (3,030 ft) long, 267 m (876 ft) high bridge, stop by the visitor’s center for a scenic overlook from the deck. Take the path to the wooden staircase to reach the viewing platform. Beneath the bridge, guided tours with a safety harness are available on a 0.4 km (0.25 mi), handicap-accessible steel catwalk. • The bridge to drive over is no big deal. It was under construction when we were there. You cannot stop on the bridge, or walk on it. But the area, hiking, fishing, etc is great. Check out my review of...  more »
  • I have visited Fayetteville several times, and the New River Gorge is a favorite attraction. Viewed both from bridge level or by driving down a steep winding road to the river level, the views are spe...  more »
  • No need to go just on Bridge Day--the bridge has a visitor center and paths to explore. Lots of free parking as well. In any season, this is a must see for nature's beauty.  more »
  • Highest arch bridge in the western hemisphere. The view is awesome, but head 1/4 north of the bridge to the visitors' center to see good views of the structure itself. They have Bridge Day, here, every 3rd Saturday in October, where adrenaline fueled parachutists jump off the bridge and land safely in the gorge. It's a piece of Americana that should not be missed.
  • Beautiful place, great views. I also got 3 dogs here!
  • Fun little stop on the way to Dollywood. This is a beautiful nature park.
  • Iconic view of West Virginia.
  • One of the highest bridges in the US, awesome views specially in the fall.🍁🍁
