New River Gorge Bridge, Fayetteville

The third-highest bridge in the United States and the fourth-longest single-arch span in the world, New River Gorge Bridge offers views of the New River below and the gorge it has carved in the Appalachian Mountains. Before crossing the 924 m (3,030 ft) long, 267 m (876 ft) high bridge, stop by the visitor’s center for a scenic overlook from the deck. Take the path to the wooden staircase to reach the viewing platform. Beneath the bridge, guided tours with a safety harness are available on a 0.4 km (0.25 mi), handicap-accessible steel catwalk. Be on the lookout for the brown sign on your way to the bridge--it can be easy to miss. • I really like to find unique things to see and do when I travel. I liked this stop because it is the bridge on the West Virginia state quarter. You can do a bridge walk (see bridgewalk.com) or you can...  more »
  • Came here to see the trees in the fall and the bridge fest. It was nice, but hard to see the jumpers opening their shutes. Food was the same on both sides of the bridge. They could sell a lot more wit...  more »

  • Amazing experience. Worried more about my phone than my own safety. very cool.
  • The bridge is the main attraction, a guided tour is available but besides that there are many options for hiking, rafting, fishing and sitting by the banks of the river. Plan a full day picnic to explore different aspects of the place
  • It's beautiful and looking over the bridge while it's foggy makes it even prettier.
  • Highest arch bridge in the western hemisphere. The view is awesome, but head 1/4 north of the bridge to the visitors' center to see good views of the structure itself. They have Bridge Day, here, every 3rd Saturday in October, where adrenaline fueled parachutists jump off the bridge and land safely in the gorge. It's a piece of Americana that should not be missed.
  • The bridge, the water, the road to the bottom on gorge, all unique.
