Shining Sea Bikeway, Falmouth
(4.7/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
The 17.2 km (10.7 mi) Shining Sea Bikeway is named after a phrase in the song "America the Beautiful" as portions of it hug the ocean. The trail runs on an abandoned railroad path near woods and coastline scenery, past lakes, marshes, and quaint houses. Originally established in 1975, the bikeway has been improved, extended, and paved throughout its entire length. The path is suitable even for beginners or a casual cyclists, as it's mostly level with only a slight occasional grade. On your ride, you'll see cranberry bogs and typical Cape Cod plant life. Stop and have a picnic on the beach, or snap photos of birds at the salt pond. The path can get busy; be sure to respect bicycle rules and watch for inline skaters and runners as well. • A fairly new expansion makes this a great daylong ride. The northern end is more rural; views of the water and harbors are offered as you ride south. The southern portion leads you to Falmouth village...  more »
  • We walked the first 3 miles of the trail, starting and ending in Woods Hole. The first 3/4 of a mile are not very interesting as you are basically going through the parking area for the Ferry Terminal...  more »
  • This is a must-do if you're in the Woods Hole / Falmouth area. We rented bikes from a shop right off the bike path and rode the entire path (about 20 miles round trip). Had lunch in Woods Hole and fel...  more »

  • Great trail got a flat halfway threw 2 kind gentleman rode to bike shop came back to me and fixed it . I was able to do the whole trail enjoyed my day . So nice to see nice people are still out here .
  • Great for running or walking. A lot of shady stretches. Porter potties along the way. Water fountain ( to fill up your water bottle when running) at around 2.5 miles from woods hole wnd
  • Awesome bike trail with nice waterfront views! The views get better as you head closer to Wood's Hole, but also it can become a little hectic because the path runs through a few parking lots for the ferry. I'd recommend stopping in downtown Falmouth which is a short stop off of the path. It has a larger food selection than Wood's Hole and there are some more shops to check out!
  • Zero cars. Safe for children. Great view to stroll, bike, skating :-)
  • Great path, excellent for every level of cyclist
