In 1977, the state appropriated $125,000 to match $125,000 from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund to buy 640 acres along U.S. Highway 412 for a public park. However, the state could not fund the completion of the proposed park, so it leased out the land for grazing until 1997. In that year, representatives from the Tourism and Recreation Department met with local residents, who formed a Conservancy to manage the park. The local residents maintain the facilities, The state provided the land. The Conservancy also pays for a gatekeeper who opens and locks the park at night. There are no fees for using the park.

  • Beautiful state park in northwestern Oklahoma. The hike to the top is not strenuous, but it is well worth it. The views of the surrounding countryside are great. There are a couple of picnic tables and a restroom at the bottom for your convenience. There are smaller rock formations near the parking lot that are fun to climb around on as well. Exploring the park won't take long so be sure to plan to visit some other attractions in the area.
  • This place is absolutely beautiful! My husband and I had a fantastic time today! We will certainly be back again. We heard about this place from his late Grandmother. She wrote about Gloss Mountain in a story. I'm glad she wrote about it. Climbing to the top was so much fun and the view was certainly enjoyable. I can't wait to go back.
  • One of all time favorites to visit. Take the long hike up, or the flatish ground at the bottom. Nice place to pic nic and explore nature
  • Nice place to pull off and take a hike into the hills. If you plan on going to the top last 30 feet is pretty steep. The VEIW Is Worth It When You Get Up there.
  • On a dry and dusty drive, Gloss Mtn. S.P. was a great spot to stretch the legs. Beautiful panoramic views!
