Built in 1853 as a police station to keep peace as settlers poured into the former Dakota lands, it withstood several attacks in the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 and became a training ground for Civil War recruits.

The site is located within Fort Ridgely State Park and is managed by the Nicollet County Historical Society.

    We like to visit state parks and walk the Hiking Club trail. This trail had some beautiful flowers and trees. We saw a plum tree and ate its fruit, a fawn, wild flowers, and grouse. Reading about the....  more »

    Being from out west when you go to frontier forts you kind of expect more then foundations for a $7.00 entrance fee. In addition they want another $5.00 to go. In the museum. Fortunately it was on my....  more »

    Nice park. EZ yet rewarding trails. Cool little museum and old fort ruins. Trails right from the nice spacious campground. Creek is beautiful and runs right alone the campground.
