Chena River State Recreation Area is a 254080acre state park in the U.S. state of Alaska, located east of Fairbanks. The recreation area is centered on the Chena River. Facilities include campgrounds, hiking, ATV, snowmachine and sled dog trails, a shooting range, fishing ponds, and several public-use cabins. Fishing for Arctic grayling is catch-and-release only in the river, but visitors may keep grayling caught in the three stocked ponds. The area is also noted for several concentrations of granite tors. The road through the recreation area ends at the privately owned and operated Chena Hot Springs resort.

  • Big Serene Lake Park. Here good day many people gather for a picnic, there is year-round fishermen. And we just enjoyed the quiet and beautiful views.

  • A state park within a city is not that usual so this was an experience. It is on the Chena River and is a scenic spot if you overlook the amount of beer cans on the trails. A big bar is nearby. One ni...  more »

  • 9-2-16, We mostly drove through the park but hiked the Tors and Angel Rock area. Lots of water and alpine zones. The rocks on the Tors are mystical looking and well worth the 15 mile round trip.
  • Wast wilderness, went there in end of march. All the trails were still closed with snow and the river was just starting to thaw. Nice to drive and great to watch.
  • A great place to go for a day or two. There are lots of campsites and trails to hike. The nature is beautiful and it's just a great place to be
