  • We absolutely loved this bookstore during our visit from Oregon to Eureka Springs. Although the footprint of the store is small, the selection of books is impressive, especially the non-fiction selections. The aspect of our visit that made it especially wonderful was our hour long conversation with the bookstore's owner. Her level of intelligence and insight was electrifying. We especially enjoyed the bookstore's strict policy of no cell phone use. Thank you Virginia! We'll be back.
  • Good selection, quaint store up the hill on the Spring Street. The Lady was helpful and interesting to visit with.
  • This is the first time I have ever written an online review of a business, but felt compelled to do so after my recent experience with this store. It is validating to read the other negative reviews as I really felt angry and humiliated after my visit and it is at least nice to know I am not the only one. My family and I visit Eureka springs every year, and I have purchased books at this store in the past with no issues. However on our recent visit I went into the store with my two children, ages 3 and 8. My girls are very well behaved and calm (and in fact had been given a treat earlier in the day by the owner of an antique shop based on their good behavior in her store). Shortly after entering the shop, it became apparent that the owner was watching our every move, and when my youngest daughter picked up a greeting card to show me the picture on it, the owner came over and snatched it out of her hand, snapping "You really shouldn't touch these cards! They bend and damage easily!" We moved on to look at books and selected one to purchase. As I was flipping through the book we selected, my daughter picked up a hardcover children's book that was displayed on a shelf (a book for her age level, placed at her eye level) and two other hardcover books fell, striking her on her head and shoulder. Surprised my 3 year old picked up the books saying "I'm sorry" - just then the owner again rushed over, grabbed the books from her and in a loud voice said "You shouldn't be touching things! If you need help, you should ask HER (presumably me, her mother, whom the owner never addressed or spoke directly to). You shouldn't touch things in stores!" My daughter was shaken from being struck by the books and subsequently reprimanded by a stranger. Needless to say, we left without purchasing and will never return to this shop. Too bad, as we love to support local stores and my girls love books. I would suggest avoiding Gazebo Books in Eureka Springs, AR!
  • I've been twice and will never go back. One time I was with my extremely well behaved daughter who was standing right next to me in the children's section. My daughter asked if she could look at a certain book and I said yes. She carefully pulled the book out and was looking at the back cover when the owner started yelling at her for handling it. We left. Another time I went in by myself and was removing a book I intended to buy from the shelf, and was told to be more careful with it, so I put it back on the shelf and left. I really don't think the purpose of this place is to sell books, but to give the owner a venue to berate people. Much like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld, if you don't follow the exact, unwritten rules of the place, it's "no book for you!" I tell everyone I know who goes to Eureka Springs to avoid this place - and those that don't avoid it inevitably end up with stories of their own to tell.
  • like many of the others this is the first time I have ever written a review. my daughter loves to read books and that's all she talked about while we were in Eureka Springs. the woman that runs the store was so rude to us that twice we came in and had to leave, the second time because my son picked up a book and showed me that he liked it. it was one of the rudest experiences I have ever had as a customer. I urge anyone with children to never step foot in that bookstore.
