Route 66 State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri, located on the former site of the town of Times Beach. It is a 419acre park located less than east of Eureka.HistoryTimes Beach was bought, dismantled, and decontaminated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency following the discovery of widespread dioxin contamination in the 1980s. Fields of wild grass and brush now grow where the homes of evacuated residents formerly stood. Deserted streets line the park and hint at what once was a resort community in west Saint Louis County.Route 66 bridgeThe visitor center, located in the old Bridgehead Inn on the east side of the Meramec River, was joined to the park on the west side by the old Route 66 bridge. The bridge has been closed because of safety concerns. The park itself is accessible only from east-bound Interstate 44 at exit 265. The visitor center is accessed from either direction at exit 266 and is cut off from the park it serves.Activities and amenitiesThe park has a boat ramp providing access to the river as well as a picnic area and trails for hiking, cycling, and equestrian use. The visitor center exhibits photos and memorabilia of structures along Route 66 in the Saint Louis area which have been torn down and replaced by modern shopping centers and strip malls. Displays include the first historic Route 66 marker, originally erected on the highway in Springfield, Missouri, as well as an interpretation of the ecological disaster and 20-year cleanup of the area.Add Route 66 State Park and other attractions to your Eureka trip itinerary using our Eureka trip planner .

Huge shout out to the lady behind the counter, Deborah! She was an awesome help and very informed about the "Mother Road" and just a fun and fantastic person to talk to while visiting the visitor's center! The park is somewhat difficult to get to. I didn't get the chance to walk around the trails at all, but I'm glad I stopped!

Somewhat difficult to get to, we had to double back because there is only one off-ramp that leads there. However, the bike trails there are really flat. The outer trail that goes by the river is better to hike on. It is paved, but the pavement is uneven and cracked.

I'm all about the visitors center at each park. I try to visit a new park every month and I always go to the visitors center first. It can make or break my hikes. Route 66 did not disappoint. Friendly staff, clean facilities, and a great little "Route 66" exhibit. There was also some interesting Times Beach, MO items. Another gem in the MO state parks system. The trails are not particularly great for hiking, but it's still a nice park and is great for a walk/jog with friends. Biking or Rollerblading out here is great too.

Amazing State Park! One of the best biking parks around the County! I love the fact that this place is quiet and has so many pathways you can ride. Beginner or advanced riders are welcomed here and you will love it.

Beautiful park. Pretty well maintained. Great place to go for a run or a bike ride.
