  • I was only in Eugene for a day and decided to hike up Spencer Butte. I live in FL so it was a bit of an unlikely hiker for this kind of terrain but never the less, myself and my boyfriend chose the "d...  more »
  • We went up the shorter, difficult trail. It's steep, don't take without good hiking shoes and water. Great 360 views from the top! We took the longer, we'll-maintained trail down.  more »
  • Popular trail that winds through lichen adorned Douglas Fir forest. Cold within the forest, quite warm once one gets beyond the forest and close to the summit. Great views.  more »

  • A regular stomping ground for active locals. On warm, sunny days it can get crowded at the summit! A good view of the surrounding area and beyond! For visitors out of town: A MUST! Two (unofficially, three) ways to get to the top: short and steep, or longer and gradual. A good workout. And now that the section near the summit is nicely renovated with proper steps, away from poison oak it's safer for older hikers and children.
  • I've hiked this hill at least a thousand times in the last decade...who knows how many more in the decade before that? It's a magical place, long featured in Eugene's history, and well worth the visit. You can enjoy a 1000 foot vertical climb up to the best perch in the south valley...all in an hour and a half. If you go, don't leave anything behind and take good care of this very special local resource!
  • Beautiful hike! Even after having it rain most of the morning it was fine to hike in sneakers. A bit steep at times but the view was totally worth it! Dog friendly and clean trails. This will definitely become a regular spot!
  • Great little hike. It's just over a mile to the top, but it's a good climb that'll take your breath away.
  • As a lifelong Eugenian, I've been hiking Spencers since I was a kid. The trails here are nothing short of magical. Not only are the sights a beauty to behold, but it's a damn good workout as well. I'll be coming back for excerise and natural splendor for years more.
