Very strenuous but worth it. I will definitely try it again. Cant believe this is in Alabama. Great find
Went over easter weekend and had a nice hike down to a valley campsite about 2 miles in from the AL trailhead. Several other groups camped there, but it is a large area and could accommodate several m... read more »
This was my first time here and first time backpacking. I was well aware of the steep incline we would need to take heading back out so as long as you are prepared mentally and physically you should b... read more »
Grew up in these woods, cultivated the land in these woods, better have strong legs to make this trip it is no joke you hike down a mountain, and up a creek bed, is the best way to hike this. Best time to go is a few days after a good rain when the water is still flowing out of the mountain. Nice swimming hole to cool you off, extremely cold and clear water. Have at least a gallon of water per person(for the trip in) another gallon for the trip out. Very old cemetery in the valley before the ascent to the walls along with a primitive campground for tents and small campfires. The hurricane creek is teeming with different aquatic life if you venture down the creek with a fishing pole you can catch some of the best tasting fish you've ever eaten. Again this isn't a beginners trail and there are plenty of wildlife in those woods, snakes included. After your endeavor to the walls is complete the hike out is up the mountain so be prepared to get winded. Worth the hike, worth the workout, take it from someone who has been in those woods for 20 years. Good luck
Very nice hike, great views. Make sure to take plenty of water and snacks.
Cool trail, very long. Need the whole day off to hike.
We walked two miles in and never found the river :( Bring a trail map. Quite beautiful.
Pretty cool place. Went in from Alabama trail head. Hiked straight down for 3 miles. The Walls are really cool to check out. The 3 mile hike out is the same trail going up. Take what you need and leave the cry babies at home. Overall I had 8 miles on the nose when I finished. I recommend carrying a water bottle.
