Peak to Peak Scenic Byway runs from Estes Park to Black Hawk, passing many historical mine sites and offering views of the Continental Divide. Small communities along the way are good stopping points for refreshments. The ridges and valleys of the Front Range serve as a backdrop for the journey. The 89 km (55 mi) byway passes multiple scenic areas where you can hike, bike, fish and camp, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Golden Gate Canyon State Park, and Arapaho and Roosevelt national forests. • Go during the day, you will enjoy the scenery much better than if you go at night as we ended up doing. Absolutely breath-taking area to visit.  more »
  • Nice drive while leaving Estes Park. We stopped by the Chapel on the Rock and at a pull over spot to see the creek that runs by the road.  more »
  • We drove from Estes park to Black Hawk since we were going on our return flight out of Denver. It was very easy to navigate. However, since we already did the trails in RMNP and got to take in all...  more »

  • My favorite road in Colorado. It follows the Continental Divide all the way from I-70 (near Idaho Springs) to Estes Park (the gates into Ricky Mountain National Forest.) It has several different numbered highway names along the way, but "PEAK to PEAK highway" is what the local call it. The Stage Stop in Rollinsville is lovely for lunch, while The Whistle Stop in Nederland works well for the whole family but if you want to mingle with real mountain folk, then stop at the Millsite in Ward for a moment! Be on the lookout for wildlife like moose and elk and black bears too!
