  • Highlight of my trip to Colorado. As someone who had never been fly fishing before, I had no idea what to expect. Would my wife be bored? Would my daughter be freezing and hate it? Would I actually catch a fish? Like many, I had seen "A river runs through it" and thought it would be cool to try. All I can say is, if you want a personal, fun, and authentic Colorado experience, go for Kirks. We did a guided private waters trip at Grandpa's retreat. We got to know Tim, our guide, who was an awesome dude and felt like a friend of the family by the end of the trip. Because of unusually high and fast water that day, we didn't get a chance to do top of the water dry flies. We had a fly/sinker/indicator setup that put the fly just under the surface. Tim gave us some basic instruction around this technique and answered all of the questions we had. The other guides that day were wishing Tim luck because of the poor water conditions for fishing, but within minutes we had our first fish. We went on to catch 9 that day. A couple of which were 12 - 16 inch rainbow trout. It was snag city for my daughter and I, Tim was really patient and would just handle the snags and re-tying of the flies patiently while talking to us about the wildlife, the landscape, or his favorite pizza in New Jersey. We went horseback riding and rafting in the days to follow, but nothing topped guided fly fishing for me. The conversations with our guide, the short but fun hike to the fishing spot on a rainy Colorado morning, seeing my wife hook the biggest fish of the day... it was a much more meaningful and authentic experience than you would typically expect. Highly recommended and would 100% do again. Thanks Tim and Thanks Kirk!
  • Had a wonderful experience today with Kirk's Shop. My father and I booked a 4 hour guided tour. Our guides knew everything there is to know about the water, how to teach 2 inexperienced fly fisherman the ropes. Ryan and Reese our guides we're great, very kind, encouraging, and very supportive of a new experience for us. I would recommend Kirk's to anyone. It's worth the price!!!! And yes, we caught fish.
  • Went on an awesome guided fishing trip with Kirk's shop. I did a 2hr Evening Hatch trip (which is a super unique trip for a fly shop to offer), fished great small pocket water - had a blast, caught some beautiful fish, saw sweet scenery. Luke A was the guide, and he's the man - very knowledgeable, professional, and great to fish with.
  • Highly recommended. Kirk is great to speak with and has been very helpful every time I have been in the store. His knowledge and personal attention to my questions makes me want to buy from him. Took the kids to an Orvis 101 class there - the instructor was patient and great knowing that I brought my kids to introduce them to something new. I went on a guided trip a few weeks ago and the experience was fantastic. I did pay the private water fee and we ended up on the Big T. Caught around 14-15 fish in all, two of which were 20-22". Guide was excellent and practically relentless in his efforts to help me improve on the technique he taught me that day (high stick nymphing). Equipment provided was excellent. Lunch was great. Will go back.
  • We had a great time on the 4 hour fly fishing tour at Kirk's....Jerry was a great guide with a lot of patience and passion for helping us.
