  • When you compare Poverty Point with some of there other Mound sites, it is a bit disappointing. It is a big site and the Rangers do offer guided tours. We could not do that as they had a big load of s...  more »

  • Our Cub Scout pack had the best Ranger guided tour at Poverty Point. David was so patient and knowledgeable as he showed us the World Heritage site! This place is both kid-friendly and adult filled fun.
  • Super interesting piece of history right here in Louisiana! The museum is great and full of nice artifacts all of which were found on the grounds. A must see for anyone .
  • The site is approximately a 20 - 30 minute drive north from Interstate 20 in a remote, rural part of northeast Louisiana. The landscape is very natural and the site is best seen on foot from the hiking trails, but there is a driving trail and a tram with a guide for visitors. The visitor center is small but nice and full of many interesting artifacts and a good introductory movie. On many weekends there are special events such as atl-atl spear throwing, flint knaping, earth oven cooking and pottery making. Check the website or Facebook page for special events schedule. Great place for families, but be sure to bring your own food and snacks and water. Sunscreen and/or hats are a good idea in the summer.
  • Absolutely fascinating! Great to realize there's a World Heritage site practically in our own back yard. Here's a tip: get and read Dr . Diana Greenlee's book before your visit. The site will be far more meaningful with her insights.
