  • Any fan of Mark Twain (are there any non fans?) needs to make the pilgrimage. Beautiful cemetery, with well marked directions, and a small explanation of who's buried along with him.
  • An eye opening for our teenage daughter. She was amazed how older monuments continued to remain in good condition despite their age.
  • The Woodlawn Cemetery of Elmira is historic with so much history here including the Mark Twain Grave site. Well maintained and clean with huge oak trees everywhere
  • Really was cool seeing all the gravesites and memorials for these young men who fought in the Civil War. The only thing really left is the cemetery, there are only historical markers showing where the Union POW camp used to be.
  • The people that run this cemetery must hate the people of Elmira, the very city it is built in! They treat people that come to this place like we shouldn't be there. They get the most people to visit the cemetery in who knows how many years, and what do they do? They take out the reason the people were going there. Pokemon Go has been the biggest draw in for the cemetery, but because they did not want people in the cemetery walking around or just taking in the scenery while playing a game on their phone they remove EVERYTHING to do with the game. Shame on you Woodlawn! Elmira feels the same way about you!
  • This is a very well kept cemetery that has many famous people buried in it. They give tours and even Halloween tours in the fall. Great tours of grave sites that include Mark Twain. The famous people are listed below. Most notably Mark Twain and most of his wife's family. * Mark Twain author * Ernie Davis Heisman Trophy winner from Syracuse University * Hal Roach comedy film & television producer * John W. Jones ex-slave and sexton of Woodlawn National Cemetery * Jacob Sloat Fassett Congressman * Lucius Robinson, Governor of New York * John Arnot, Jr. Congressman, Mayor, Civil War Veteran, Businessman
  • Very peaceful, good waking paths.
  • There lies a beautiful baby boy, now in heaven. Langdon Clemens. Son of Samuel Clemens, (Mark Twain). I have a 18 month old brother and an 8 month old sister and i love them so dearly. But I could'nt bare to lose them the way Samule did. The incident made life so much harder for him to go on without his only son. But these things happen for a reason. Even though I would've been a stranger to him and his family and been born 128 years after his death, I still want baby (Langdon) + family to know .........~UR NOT FORGOTTEN~ We love you
