  • Very enjoyable site. The history is rich, and the scenery is pastoral. Go on a late Saturday afternoon when the river is generating and you just might be lucky enough to view some paddlers coming down through the rapids. The meadow upstream is a good place to see wildlife: deer, skunk, and a wide variety of birds. Re-enactment weekends are especially good--very educational. And every year the 'Liberty' drama is well worth seeing. We return, and return, and return again.
  • Good museum. Good displays of local history. Great activities throughout the year.
  • I absolutely love this place. I began acting here with many of my family members at a very young age when liberty was still known as The Wataugans. Several great memories here.
  • Great exhibit of "Life on the Frontier " with life-size mannequins dressed in period forming tableaux of events involving Watauga. Written narration telling about the events, and a 15 minute video give great information. Fort Watauga is restored. Grounds around the fort along the Watauga River allow for relaxing enjoyable walks.
  • Friendly, clean, informative, their are picnic areas and great walking area's. Plus handycap friendly
