Mediterranean and Spanish varietals - Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah and Grenache - are the basic building blocks for our red blends, while Viognier and Riesling are blended for our estate white wine.

Callaghan Vineyards reviews

We arrived early and were the only two in their large outside tasting area. We tasted three very good red wines, one was served at the White House for (I believe) the 2017 governors dinner. more »

The winery was crowded when we arrived. We decided to do a tasting. We were asked to pick 5 wines, grab a seat outside under their covered area, and they would bring the wines out to us. We tried..... more »

The owner was present and pouring. Variety of wines although a limited selection due to the times. Outside seating with social distancing. Friendly servers with good wines. more »

Great winery in Elgin, our favorite. The owners are super nice and make a fun experience. Padres and Caitlin’s are among our favorites from Callaghan Vineyards but we like it all. Much more body to many of their wines than other local wineries. Not sure why this is not the #1 places to visit on Trip Advisor. Especially when I saw what #1 was.

We have enjoyed Callaghan wines for over 20 years, they never disappoint! Callaghan’s red blends can compete with more expensive, famous labels. Recently they received high accolades and awards from the San Francisco Chronicle Wine competition.....well deserved! Great people, wonderful wines!

Disappointing. The tasting room isn't set up well for tastings (seemed to be more concerned with selling stuff), and the staff didn't seem to know much about the wines. Or if they did, they weren't talking. While none of the wines were god-awful bad, none was very good either. Based on other sources, I had expected more. Perhaps it was the luck of the draw and I didn't have their best. Will never know. I won't be back.

We love tasting Callaghan's award-winning wines. They have been at it since 1991 and Kent Callaghan is truly a brilliant winemaker. Complex, dry, fruity reds, crisp whites, bubbly's and rose's. We're wine club members so we get regular shipments, but we always have a great time visiting their winery and tasting room south of Tucson. A must when you're on the Sonoita-Elgin wine trail. Dog-friendly!

I have been to most of the vineyards in Sonoita for tastings. So with that said here is my opinion: Employee knowledge: The staff was awesome and very helpful. Very much knew wines, grapes and we're awesome guides. Wine selection: They have a large selection of wine and wine types. Wine: the wines were all smooth and consistent. That said I would prefer more layers of complexity like found at some other vineyards. Atmosphere: this is what lost the star. The tasting room was a terrible after thought. Some tables with funny shirts, quilts for sale and a lot of wine set up in a warehouse with a backdrop of white boxes full of wine bottles. Overall the wine was good but because of the atmosphere and my preferences of more complex wines on my palette I will likely not be returning.
