Shore Line Trolley Museum, East Haven

(4.6/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web)
Located at 17 River Street in East Haven Ct. (Exit 51 I-95) The Shore Line Trolley Museum has been an important part of the community since its incorporation in 1945 as the Branford Electric Railway Association. Founded to preserve the unique heritage of an endangered species -- the trolley car -- it now boasts a collection of nearly 100 vintage vehicles as well as artifacts and documents from the trolley era.

It continues to operate predominantly through the dedication and support of its over 1000 member/volunteers.

A visit to the museum is a multi-sensory voyage into the past, from the moanful growl of the motors, to the smell of the electric arc, to the feel of rattan seats and varnished hardwood detailing.

  • Attended the Haunted Isle for Halloween. This was pretty scary for a trolley museum. I would definitely recommend. Get there early so you can be in the first wave of visitors.
  • I love the Shoreline Trolley Museum. It's the best place to go if you have a toddler or preschooler around Halloween. They have the pumpkin painting, the trolley ride. My kids loved it!
  • My son rode NYC subway car, great museum
  • Great place for both adults and kids. There's a museum, trolley ride, and trolley barn tour.
  • A favorite place of mine when I was a kid, it was great to go back with my nephew and be reminded that the Trolley Museum is both fun and highly informative. The staff is clearly passionate about what they do. A gem.
