How Lake Superior Art Glass got it's start:
As part of Go Downtown Grow Downtown, the Great Space Giveaway in 2012, three lucky winners would be working with property owners to secure free space in the Downtown. The contest drew in 56 concept papers and was narrowed down to 15 finalists. Due to the quality of the candidates, the selection committee opted to provide three grand prizes rather than the original two that were offered.
Finalists went through the process of creating business plans with the help of the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund and received an incentive package that included free rent for one year (of a three-year lease), free advertising package with the Duluth News Tribune, free marketing services from Out There Advertising, free retail mentoring services from Maurices, free membership with the Greater Downtown Council and startup loan assistance from the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund.
Dan had previously been using a home-based studio when he decided to expand to create Lake Superior Art Glass. LSAG includes a storefront glass blowing demonstration station, a gallery, classes, supplies, and studio rental. Parking is available for $1 per hour in the ramp next to Fond-Du-Luth Casino.

This was one of the coolest experiences I've had in a while. Great in depth explanation with the demo and the instructor Sammy was super knowledgeable yet approachable and fun. The wine glasses look so cool. I highly recommend this class and can't wait to go back for more!
A very unique place to visit in the Twin Ports. Whether you are visiting or a local, you can see beautiful artwork, watch artists master their art form and even take a glassblowing class yourself! Not to mention the location is right in the heart of Canal Park, making it a great destination spot.
This place is spectacular! Even though we didn’t have time for a class, we still learned so much. We took home a couple of great hand made glass items too.
Walked in and was browsing around. We were really admiring the awesome looking galaxy balls. Had 2 different girls come up and talk to us and explain some things about the art and said they could take something out of the locked shelves if we wanted a closer look. I asked about classes to take as i am thinking about doing some and the girl was so nice and helpful with questions i had. So i took a brochure and left. As i was walking out i noticed they close at 8 and it was 8:06. I didnt realize that and felt so bad. They never mentioned they were past closing hours and despite my mistake keeping them past closing time they were still so nice. So sorry about that and will pay better attention next time.
I never even think to leave reviews online, but my boyfriend and I had such a great time here last week taking the wine goblet class, I couldn't help myself! Sam and AJ are talented, awesome, and hilarious instructors and made this such a unique experience. A very hands-on (and judgement-free) zone! It's simple - choose your stem glass colors, and grab a glass (or three) of whatever wine you want out of the Black Box wine tower, and make some art! We hope to go back again soon!
