Enger Tower is an 80ft, five-story blue stone observation tower atop Enger Hill in Duluth, Minnesota.SummaryEnger Tower stands at an elevation of 531ft above Lake Superior, providing panoramic views of the Twin Ports. Each of the tower's levels has a lookout that is accessible by stairs. A green beacon mounted on top of the tower can be seen for many miles. Originally the second floor contained several balcony sections. The balconies eventually fell into disrepair and were removed. Their former entrances were blocked with metal bars.Enger Tower was built as a tribute to businessman and philanthropist, Bert Enger (1864-1931). Enger was a Norwegian immigrant who had found success in Duluth as a furniture seller. At the time of his death, Enger donated a sizable portion of his estate to the city of Duluth. This included the land known as Enger Hill which includes Enger Park and Enger Golf Course. The tower was first dedicated by Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Märtha of Norway on June 15, 1939. Enger Tower and Park were renovated during 2011. The royal couple of Norway, King Harald V, and his wife Queen Sonja, came to re-dedicate the newly renovated tower on October 17, 2011, which his parents had dedicated 72 years before.

  • We visited in late June and grounds were spectacular. Climbing the tower offers the best views in Duluth. Stroll the garden. Great place for a professional photo shoot. It almost makes me think about living here, BUT I've also visited during January so... Lol.
  • Beautiful view and of course it's free! The gardens are well taken care of and is a perfect picnic spot! Is not handicap accessible but is a slightly moderate walk up if you don't take your time on each level looking out.
  • This is one of the absolute best places to visit in Duluth. The park is very well kept and the views are gorgeous. I've been many times to take photos, and I've never been disappointed!
  • Clean and simple. This location offers a unique view of lake superior and Duluth. The small park on the opposite side of the engle tower allows some quiet time away from any littles ones enjoying the park. The pathways are taken care of, the greenery is healthy and not obstructing. A lot of history here with the Norwegians. Come learn about the long history of Minnesota!
  • Great view of the scenery & history of the area. There is also the "Peace Bell" in the nearby park.

Where to stay in Duluth

Canal Park and the downtown areas offer a full range of lodging, including tower hotels, national-chain motels, inns, and bed and breakfasts. For a more scenic stay, book accommodation with views of Lake Superior. Staying in Canal Park or downtown puts you within easy reach of numerous restaurants, shops, and attractions, but you should also consider bedding down in the historical area east of Chester Park. Many of the inns and bed and breakfasts here occupy turn-of-the-century mansions, and the neighborhood itself offers a quiet respite from busy downtown and Canal Park.
