  • After eating delicious bbq next door I decided to do a little wine tasting. I walk into this charming western style building and only two people are in here. I first browse item for sale like candles ...  more »

  • For us, it is a tradition, since 1979, to eat BBQ in the old Salt Lick building. While waiting to be seated, we can enjoy a variety of wines or beer in a charming setting while listening to local sing...  more »

  • If, like me, you are on a quick business trip to Austin and don't have time to seek out a BBQ restaurant while in town, the Salt Lick is a great place to experience some of Austin's famous BBQ. It's a great way to have a tasty meal during a time that would otherwise be spent waiting for a plane. The line can be long during peak times, but service is fast and efficient. From my experience, a two meat platter is a great deal, and the generous portions will leave you full and ready for a long flight. The meats and sauce are top notch, but don't overlook the terrific sides: beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and bread to soak it all up, included with the platter choices. Far better than the cast majority of airport food out there.
  • The airport salt lick is one of the best food options in the airport. The prices are pretty decent for BBQ compared some other BBQ joints in town. I'd recommend going to their brick and mortar location instead of the airport one, but hey... If you at the airport. Enjoy
  • Came during a peak period but wait was minimal. Food just as good as the original Salt Lick. Try their Tacos at the Taco Cart across from Gate 10. Only place Salt Lick sells pulled chicken. Heavenly! Get them every trip, coming and going.
  • We are longtime fans of the original Salt Lick location, so were thrilled to see a location at the Austin airport (and without a 2 hour wait). We grabbed a couple of to-go sandwich combos for $34.00 (typical airport prices). Opened my sliced brisket sandwich on the plane to discover that fully one-half of it was pure fat between bread. The half that was actually meat was good, but I was beyond disappointed that I paid $8+ for fat. I had to throw away half of my sandwich. With high volume and rapid sales comes reduced quality. This is unfortunate, since good barbecue takes time and care to cook and trim. Think twice about ordering quick serve barbecue at beyon full service prices.
  • The second worst nachos I've ever had. The only time I've worse nachos was in 2007 in Atlantic city. Those were canned nacho cheese whiz and soggy chips. That's it. Those were BARELY worse than what I got at Salt Lick. The ones I got at Salt Lick were a pile of slop. My wife was in the mood for a glass of wine. Turns out the glass she ordered was $20. That's right, $20 for a mediocre glass of wine. Please do not waste your money here. I only went here because my flight was delayed and nothing else was open. But seriously, it's awful. Stay away!
