History Museum Museum
Take a step back in time at Boot Hill Museum, where you can see a living history of the American Wild West. Taking its name from the cemetery that once stood in the area--one that was generally reserved for cowboys and figures who died violent deaths--the museum catalogues a variety of topics, events, and people from the history of western expansion. Visit the recreated city street--which often features costumed western characters--and wander its shop fronts, admiring its displays of period buildings and interiors. Browse its extensive collection of more than 60,000 objects pertaining to the era, including Native American artifacts, photographs, firearms, clothing, and personal items from many of the city's past residents. Keep your eyes open and you may even see a re-enacted gunfight or other historical drama right outside. • I would highly recommend the dinner! They serve brisket, cream corn, biscuits, potatoes and onions, and slaw with apple crisp for dessert. Portions are plentiful with opportunity to go back for a second helping. The shootout and show were decent, but I would not pay to attend them again. The museum was very interesting, especially the first portion about the Plains Indians. Nice facilities and nice staff. Worth a visit!
  • This was a nice detour on our trip across Kansas. All of the inside parts were air conditioned. They had additional content like a saloon show/dinner and shootout if you were staying the evening. We only paid for the museum part ($12) and spent more than the 15 minutes we thought it would take. But it was interesting and as it was based on the history of the city, I enjoyed it better than just a "replica" site.
  • This was an interesting stop on a cross country trip. It's obviously directed at tourism, but that's to be expected. The staff were wonderful and friendly, and the reconstructed town front was a nice was to experience the lighter side of history.
  • Lots of interesting relics from one of America's classic Old West towns. Stop in at the Long Branch Saloon and you can enjoy a cold beverage.
  • Took me back to when I watched Westerns on RV. A lot of fun memorabilia and some interesting history.
