Boot Hill Museum, Dodge City

(4.1/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Take a step back in time at Boot Hill Museum, where you can see a living history of the American Wild West. Taking its name from the cemetery that once stood in the area--one that was generally reserved for cowboys and figures who died violent deaths--the museum catalogues a variety of topics, events, and people from the history of western expansion. Visit the recreated city street--which often features costumed western characters--and wander its shop fronts, admiring its displays of period buildings and interiors. Browse its extensive collection of more than 60,000 objects pertaining to the era, including Native American artifacts, photographs, firearms, clothing, and personal items from many of the city's past residents. Keep your eyes open and you may even see a re-enacted gunfight or other historical drama right outside. Plan to visit Boot Hill Museum and other customer-reviewed, writer-recommended Dodge City attractions using our Dodge City itinerary builder.

  • Love this place! Staff is excellent. You can sit in the saloon and enjoy their rootbeer or a cold beer! So much to see I took about 200 pictures last time I was here. Sharing photos of the trail this time.
  • I love visiting Dodge City and the site of Boot Hill. There is such history here and it makes you a part of it. Love the times spent in such a neat place. It's a step back in time, and what a great experience!
  • This place is a must stop for historian and cowboy lovers. Even though we came after the season had ended, it was still worth the trip. We loved the museum and the artifacts, the displays and the General Store keeper and the Bar Tender @ the Long Branch Saloon. Definitely worth our stop.
  • It tells all the history of dodge city - wyatt earp, bat masterson and other legendary persons
  • Very unique and interesting. Because of schedule we didn't stay for all the daily activities but it all looked fun. We did hang out and play on the train and enjoyed that piece of history.
