Boot Hill Museum, Dodge City

4.3
#1 of 15 in Things to do in Dodge City
Take a step back in time at Boot Hill Museum, where you can see a living history of the American Wild West. Taking its name from the cemetery that once stood in the area--one that was generally reserved for cowboys and figures who died violent deaths--the museum catalogues a variety of topics, events, and people from the history of western expansion. Visit the recreated city street--which often features costumed western characters--and wander its shop fronts, admiring its displays of period buildings and interiors. Browse its extensive collection of more than 60,000 objects pertaining to the era, including Native American artifacts, photographs, firearms, clothing, and personal items from many of the city's past residents. Keep your eyes open and you may even see a re-enacted gunfight or other historical drama right outside. • What a wonderful, unique historic site in Dodge City. Easy to find and plenty to see for a couple of hours. Some of it is outdoors, but most is indoors so weather not really an issue. See the infamous...  more »

  • Nice little place to spend the day. It was mainly little store fronts and self-touring the time of year we went. The gift shop is very nice and the man working there was so helpful. If you have a family or small children, the "girly" pictures were rather distasteful and it definitely wasn't easy for someone in a wheelchair. They have a beautiful little chapel!
  • Lots of history, nice exhibits. Enter & Exit via gift shop (of course). Most of the buildings have been restored not original. Try a sarsaparilla soda at the saloon and be sure to ask the piano player to play a tune for you. Visited in October, very windy, but sun was warm.
  • This was a wonderful experience! You learn a lot while having a blast, It is very family friendly! Lots and lots of info for the history nuts and some grade A root-beer floats at the little diner! I would recommend this to anyone and everyone!
  • Great museum, great artifacts. Worth the visit. We were here in 2014. The afternoon shootout is worth the trip. Great time.
  • One of the most enter resting places. Great for all ages. The old west was as wild as it gets. Have fun out there. Get your walking shoes out
