  • Great place. It has a HYPE center where my friends and I can hang out and play games all day. The HYPE is for ages 13-18. If you are not that age you can go explore the rest of the library. They have a kids section where younger kids can read kid friendly books. They also have, business, management, and other sections for different people. They consider everyone and is always trying to help. Visit the main branch for your wonderful experience!
  • An absolute gem. Hope to see this incredible building get the preservation and restoration it desperately needs. An entire city block, right across the street from the (also amazing) Detroit Institute of Arts Museum. The marble staircases and intricate detail of the ceilings and murals are stunning. Every nook and cranny deserves to be explored!
  • The Detroit Public Library is seriously underrated. It has so many books and resources, and for me as a student, it is incredibly helpful. I have come here several times, either to do research, study, or simply check out a book or two. It's just incredible. The Library seems so majestic and out of this world. It feels as if you have entered a Roman temple. Kind and gentle people will meet you at your first step. Then come the murals of several different historical eras. Of lessons to learn from. Of people still relevant to us today. And of events that are at the heart of this great city. Next come the shelves, full with books, so that they are touching shoulder to shoulder. There are books here not found even at the Wayne State University libraries. There are areas designed specifically for children and teenagers (there is a whole YA center and a different region for kids). There is even a career center where people can come in and get access to Internet-connected computers, help in applying for jobs and getting skills for them, and to even learn how to read and excel in standardized testing. OMG, why are people not coming here more often? I don't know. But I do know one thing: the fact that the most borrowed book here is the Bible conveys a lot about the faith of this great community, and its persistent and resilient desire to keep reading.
  • I've been going over this library since I was little girl. This library have room for dvds. The third floor have CDs and art books. Two floors of computers. Large selection of books. Nice staff.
  • If you have kids this is one of the best places in the city to take them. Especially on weekends, arts and crafts.
