Pappajohn Sculpture Park, Des Moines

4.3
#1 of 9 in Parks in Des Moines
Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world’s most celebrated artists.

The 4.4 acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns’ contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

  • The sculptures are interesting and I love walking the park. They changed the amount of Pokemon Go Stops here so you don't have as many people running around because of Pokemon. Brings the quiet enjoyableness back to the park. The traffic isn't loud either around here so not much noise on that level.
  • Was an amazing discovery! We lucked into an open air event with booths and entertainment. The enormity of some pieces was astonishing while some tender ordinary pieces were just lovely. We didn't come across the dog poop bombs in the grass.
  • This outdoor sculpture park is very interesting and worth the stroll when you have the chance. Many of the pieces are larger than life and can even be stood inside of. These are modern art pieces, so prepare to let your mind attempt to processthe art in its own way before checking out the artists' intent. The art festival takes place here and in the surrounding neighborhood annually.
  • Beautiful park and amazing statues. The only problem we had was all of the grass areas were completely covered in dog poop! Seriously there wasn't anywhere you could step on the grass where there wasn't any!
  • Nice refreshing experience in the midst of Des Moines downtown. Enjoyed a lot by spending good time with family. Must visit place..
