Clyfford Still is considered one of the most important and significant artists of the 20th century. He originated the Abstract Expressionism movement and influenced the work of contemporaries such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. Few artists of this magnitude have left behind such a comprehensive and mysterious collection of work. And never before has the world seen such a collection of work displayed intact, and under one roof. • I visited the Clyfford Still Museum on a recent trip to Denver. The museum can be totally explored in an hour and a bit. The museum owns the vast majority of all the works that Clyfford painted so the...  more »

  • Good food and wine. Truffle frites extraordinary. More appetizers that pair with the red wine flights are needed.  more »

  • I have been wanting to go to this museum for years and finally got the change to check it out. The museum is set up in a great flow from his early life to the end of his works. They are repeatedly changing the works so you can visit often and see new things.
  • The summer concert series are fun. The events start way too early for people that work a typical job. The docents were extremely rude and negatively impacted my experience.
  • One of my best museum experiences ever. The space is a marvel of architectural design and the displays provide a thorough insight into Still's world. Love the commitment to new curation every few months. Fantastic.
  • The show I saw was all works on paper, it was great. Definitely coming back for shows by guest curators this Spring. Great architecture!
  • Smaller museum with beautiful pieces but something that can be seen fairly quickly. Very large spaces.

Where to stay in Denver

For a touch of class near all Denver's major attractions, book a room at one of the city's historical hotels, built during the late-19th century silver rush. Denver's oldest hotels feature opulent oak furnishings, silver chandeliers, and frescoed walls, as well as spacious rooms packed with high-tech gadgets. If you're planning your visit on a limited budget, consider the affordable hostels and bed and breakfasts located outside the central part of town. Alternatively, you can also stay at one of the mid-range hotels near the airport.
