Little Chapel in the Woods, Denton

#3 of 8 in Things to do in Denton
The Little Chapel in the Woods is a chapel constructed mainly for meditation and prayer.

It was built in 1939, on the Denton campus of Texas Womans University, and was dedicated by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Inside the chapel, there are many pieces of artwork, as well as stained glass windows. It was designed by regional architect O'Neil Ford.

The building was constructed of native Texas field stone quarried 40 miles from the TSCW campus by the National Youth Administration. In fact, the entire structure, including the stained glass. stone work and lighting, were all completed by the NYA. Funds for the project were raised from donations and various money raising projects, including garage sales and waffle breakfasts.

  • Nice little Chapel - but not worth the trip - parking is bad - and directions to the Chapel is bad. I have seen many Chapel all over the world. Pass on this and visit the Court house.  more »
  • We visited it due to a family wedding and found it pleasant though a bit sparsely apportioned. You need to get there EARLY for a wedding or you'll have a trek in the heat if its summer.  more »
  • This was a very pleasant and peaceful, chapel. It is located on the campus at Texas Women's University. It was great to finally visit this local landmark  more »

  • Beautiful chapel, but during the week they do not offer parking to people visiting the chapel. TWU should have visitor parking around the chapel, but they only have resident parking around the chapel for the college students living in the dorms. Getting to the chapel is the most important part about visiting, but no one can get there unless there is parking available. The closest parking lot is a quarter of a mile or more away from the chapel, and the campus is not well-lit at night. This means that anyone wanting to visit in the evening during the week has to park far away, and walk all the way to and from the chapel in the dark. Beautiful chapel, but close parking is a must. This is especially true for handicapped individuals. The campus is EXTREMELY LACKING in handicapped parking.
  • My mom got married here and it was perfect! There were about 70 people in attendance. The building is beautiful and so peaceful. Definitely recommend!
  • A beautiful venue for a wedding
  • My wife and I got married here and we had a great experience. The prep rooms in the back are pretty small, but we didn't really care about that too much.
  • If you want to see somthing beautiful and peaceful go there! I sometimes have a little picnic with my family near it ~ it is not rare to see a weeding taking there or weeding photo shoot, or other types of celebrations.
