Denali National Park and Preserve
The 2.43 million hectares (6 million acres) of Denali National Park include low taiga forest, high-alpine tundra, and snowcapped mountains, all of which lead up to Mt. McKinley--the highest peak in North America, at 6,194 m (20,320 ft). This great expanse of land, which is larger than the state of Massachusetts, is home to some of the largest animal species in the U.S., including grizzly bears, moose, and caribou. Wolves roam the park, and birders delight in spotting golden eagles, ptarmigan, gray jays, and the occasional migratory bald eagle. Many visitors choose to sightsee via the park's bus service, while more adventurous visitors explore more deeply by hiking, biking, mountaineering, and fishing. Where to stay in Denali National Park and Preserve

Six campgrounds sit inside Denali National Park; five are open in summer and one provides camping year-round. A few privately owned wilderness lodges occupy private land within the park. Most visitors stay outside the park in hotels, motels, lodges, inns, and bed and breakfasts. You'll find most of these in the towns of Healy and Cantwell, 17.7 km (11 mi) and 48.3 km (30 mi) south of the park, respectively. Most businesses list their address as a milepost. The park's entrance sits at mile 237 on the highway, with mile markers increasing as you head north.
