  • Our family loves Sky Meadows. We enjoy the picnic area which has a nice grass area for playing around in, raised charcoal boxes for roasting hot dogs & marshmallows and clean pit-style toilets. Up the road is a historic home and visitor center/gift shop. Great activities throughout the year. We really enjoyed learning about bees and the moonlight hike. Also great hiking trails.
  • I gave this two starts because I could have asked questions before I went to avoid my horrible experience (or going at all). The park website does state that "parking" near camp is not allowed however the parks map indicates a road from the visitor center to the camp ground. I assumed (my mistake) that I could drop my camp gear at the site, then park at designated parking areas and hike back up to the camp. To my dismay, the road is only accessible for rangers and is off limits to the public. For your own information, if you plan to camp here, do not bring more gear than you (or your toddler) can carry on your back. The park offers a wheel barrow but a wheel barrow filled with camp gear is not conducive to a hiking trail and steep hills. This is also plotted designated sites so the only primitive thing about it is that it is a pain to get your gear up there. We had neighbors (about 150ft away) with a large party that were very loud and made it feel like I was still in DC. I would ask that the park edit their description to state "campsites are not accessible by public vehicle" or make it more pain in a sense. The place is beautiful and I would never say "never go there" but just be aware, plan accordingly.
  • Beautiful state park with hiking. There are many trails of varying difficulties. Great views. My hiking group went on a Saturday morning, and after hiking enjoyed a small living history museum that the park also hosts.
  • Great hiking trails, varying levels of difficulty. In addition there are often local festivals held here. Well worth the trip from "Northern Virginia"
  • So many ticks, I took my two dogs hiking today and I have spent more time pulling ticks off of the dogs than I did hiking. I have pulled off at least 30 ticks, to which most, if not all of them were deer ticks. I also have found multiple on myself. I would not recommend taking your animals to this park until the ticks have died after the first freeze. I will definitely not be going back to hike anytime soon, I have never see this many ticks while hiking in this area.
