This was our second time we visited the prison and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. A definite MUST SEE while you are in Deer Lodge!!
We were in town without much else to do and really enjoyed the Old Montana Prison experience. Crazy to think that it was still running until 1979!
The Old Montana prison complex is quite interesting and they give you a great walking tour booklet to follow. You really get to see a lot of the prison. We spent a couple hours and enjoyed it a lot.
This is a great set of museum, the ticket covers the prison museum, auto museum, and some additional museums all within walking distance of each other. The Prison Museum included a self-guided tour book that was very thorough and informational. The tour explored both the inside and outside grounds of the prison, focusing on both the people who were in the prison and the evolution of the prison itself. This was a great roadside stop.
Really interesting prison with an interesting history. You should definitely take the informative tour!
