  • The drive to get to the old ranch is a long, bumpy, rocky (washboard) road. If you have a high clearance 2- wheel drive truck/SUV you can make it up to the last 1/4 mile where you find a steep hill...  more »
  • Life is short. There is so much to see in Death Valley. It is beautiful and other worldly. It is filled with silence and colorful rocks and it is the lowest part of the U.S. You can spend weeks in...  more »
  • Tough to find, you will need a high clearance four wheel vehicle to get in there but the drive is beautiful through the canyon. The Barker Ranch was built around 1940 by Bluch and Helen Thomason who.....  more »

  • Camp out nearby. 4WD only; be careful trying to get here in ordinary vehicles with low clearance.
  • Fun off road day. Made it from Ballarat, past Mengel Pass and to 190 no problem at night. Always changing terrain though. Route taken in Dec. 2018
  • Need 4wd for one rock that’s currently being watered by a spring a few yards up. 2wd and a solid bump could make it up. Aside from the 1 “obstacle” 2wd and suv clearance can make it. Ranch was nice- folks are doing a good job of keeping trash picked up. If you plan to go further up the trail say a mile or so north of Barker ranch. High clearance is a must... skid plates are a must- you will use the skids unless your lifted.... Update- as of 15 June 19 Road has been graded all the way through the barker ranch. Mengel pass will still require high clearance. Rock obstical 1 mile or so up the canyon is completly covered in chip rock and easily driveable...
  • Amazing. 4x4 needed.
  • Cool place. Easy wheeling up gohler wash. Need 4x4 no doubt, but very mild.
