  • A great visit for young and old. Lots of interesting exhibits to look at up close. Nice displays and interactive learning. A kids room and a theater. Very pretty posters and post cards, toys and...  more »
  • Great display of fossils unearthed from the region. There are also beautiful murals that help you imagine what the earth might have looked back then, and what these unusual plants and animals looked.....  more »
  • We went on a road trip to the John Day area wanting to explore a part of Oregon we hadn’t been to before. We had never previously heard about the John Day fossil beds, which in hindsight is a crime...  more »
  • Truly an excellent educational experience in Paleontology, Fossils, and Geologic History in Oregon. The exhibits are designed students to adults. Additionally, there are 3 additional nearby locations discussed that are easily reached to explore. There is so much information and so many things to experience, one could easily spend more than a day exploring and and learning from all four locations.
  • This is a pretty fascinating trip back through time, it's way better than whatever you learned in elementary school. It is hands down the best paleontology museum that I've ever been to. (Not that I've been to a ton)
  • The walk through museum brought out the kid in me, the sounds of the displays made me giggle with joy. Free 18 minute movie taught me a lot about the fossil beds area. It's always fun to learn something new.
  • I think this Nat. monument doesn't get the attention it should. The collection of mammal fossils and the continuity in timeline is amazing. Each gallery is designed to put you into the period both in sound and sight. Stepping outside, you get a great view of Sheep Rock and it's distinct layers
  • Neat little museum. But truth be told, you probably would appreciate the good clean restrooms here more. Also check out the swallows nesting under the porch roof.
