Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory offers free tours where you can learn about chocolate- and candy-making the old-fashioned way. The factory, founded in 1925 by Riddell Angell and Cora Phelps, started in Michigan but moved to Florida at the beginning of World War II. Take the short guided tour, which gives views onto the factory floor from a glass hallway. Your guide will explain the processes as you go. At the end, you can try a number of chocolate samples. • Below is a review I posted to their Facebook page: I was super excited to find a local place that made chocolate. I went with my cousins who were two years old. We had made it just to the end of the tour when the tour lady made our group leave. I understand that fussy babies make it difficult, but to make an entire party (consisting of three other adults) leave and not allow us to finish the tour was really upsetting. While I can understand asking the children to leave there's a difference between "I'm really sorry but people are having a hard time hearing" and "I can't continue this tour with your children here." We also saw that everyone else in the tour group was given samples which was not offered to us in anyway. I understand this was a free tour however this was totally and completely an unacceptable way to treat a group. I will not be returning after this customer service. Next is their response: I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience here at Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory. We take great pride in the customer service that we provide to our customers as is reflected in our reviews here on Facebook, Google and Trip Advisor. Providing great customer service to everyone requires us to take everyone's experience into account. It is our understanding that our tour guide did her best to conduct the tour over the crying of the children making every attempt to accommodate. Unfortunately 10 minutes into the tour it was made clear to her that the other customers were unable to hear her or enjoy their tour experience over the noise being made by the children and they were not going to be soothed or removed from the tour without something being said. The remainder of the adults in your party were certainly welcome to remain and it is my understanding that they did so and that free samples were received by all members of your group including yourself. Again, we are sorry that you did not enjoy your tour but we have a responsibility to all of our customers to ensure that they are also able to enjoy their visit. Why post again? As is evidence from this response Angell and Phelps only cares about how they APPEAR to the public. They act as though I lied about leaving (I did not. Myself and my family left after the tour guide TOLD us the PARTY had to leave, not just the children) and acted as though they were acting in the best interest of their customers. In fact, when we left I had many other customers from the tour guide apologize for the way we were treated by the tour guide. Don't go here. Go somewhere else that's cheaper and where the people working actually respect their customers. There are many other places in the area where children won't be treated as annoying and you won't be treated as though you were lying just to lower their customer appearance.
  • The free tour was awesome and they even sang happy birthday to my son that had just turned 12. I did not give 5 stars because the lady at the check out was not very friendly. We were just about to catch a flight and my son wanted to bring home some chocolate bacon for his father. He was worried about crushing it, so I asked for a small box to hold the bacon in so that it would not get crushed in flight in his backpack. The woman at the checkout was extremely irritated that the bacon was in the box it was in. She said that box was only for one pound of chocolate. I offered to pay for the box and she would not charge me.... I would have happily paid for the box, but she would rather just be irritated that I had it. :( BOO!. Otherwise, very cute shop and the candy was amazing!! :)
  • This is always my favorite place to go in Daytona. Everyone is very friendly. Its one of the oldest Chocolate places in Florida if not the oldest. My kids loved the tour and the free samples. The chocolate is SO GOOD you will not leave there without buying something, and things are cheap to high depending what you buy but its the best
  • When visiting Ormond Beach we always stop in for chocolate covered potato chips and bacon. When we started going there there was a great balance of salty and sweet. Now there is so much chocolate on them you can't tell there is a chip in it and you can't taste the bacon. It should be chocolate covered not chocolate drenched. I would just buy chocolate I'd that is what I wanted. I would give them one star but the peanut butter fudge and pralines are very good.
  • Do the tour and see how their wonderful chocolates are made. You will not be able to leave the store without buying some chocolate to take home.
