Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve is a forest preserve in southern DuPage County, Illinois between the towns of Darien and Lemont. It is named for several waterfalls on Sawmill Creek as it empties into the Des Plaines River. Rocky Glen Falls, the largest waterfall in the preserve, is actually a natural dam in the valley glen. The 2,492-acre Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien is an ecological parcel of open space within the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

Waterfall Glen's prairies, savannas, and oak-maple woodlands contain 740 native plant species, 75 percent of all the plants known to grow naturally in DuPage County. • All the talk about waterfalls. The park is named after a fellow by the name of "Waterfall". My favorite hiking trail! Early on a weekday morning is best--no crowds.

  • Waterfall Glen is a nice place to get outside and experience some scenery. The Main Trail is spacious and clean, so many people can be on it at once. You'll frequently see other joggers, bicyclists, walkers, etc. Unfortunately, the waterfall itself is deep into the preserve, and depending on where you enter from, it could take a while to reach it. The Main Trail is about 9 miles long. If you're a runner, you should definitely try the whole course, though beware that you will lose some of your gains.
  • Long, easy gravel trail for gravel bikes and hiking. Lots of beautiful scenery except the waterfall. Very small and (strangely) smelled like sewage. Definitely not worth walking the extra mile there and back from the main trail. Tip: Bring lots of cool water and a sun hat. The sun will beat on you most of the way.
  • We love going to Waterfall Glen. Some days it does get pretty busy, but the place is huge so once you get parked and in on the trails, it’s not bad. The best thing for us about Waterfall Glen, is if we feel like bike riding, the parameter trail is great for an afternoon of riding. If we feel like hiking, then going into the center trails along the river is great. And if you want to just do an easy walk, then you can walk the main trail.
  • There is hiking path that leads to the beautiful small waterfall. There are stepping stones that you can walk on at parts to hike on the creek. The kids were having fun try to catch crayfish and frogs (no animals were harmed). There is a nice variety or terrain and it's a fun little adventure.
  • No matter the season, this little waterfall is a nice spot to visit. It's much quieter in winter. In summer, there are kids wading to cool off, which is enjoyable too. But if you're looking for photo ops, pick a colder day.
