Stony Brook State Park is a state park of New York in the United States. It is located south of Dansville in Steuben County on New York State Route 36. Stony Brook State Park Campground is short distance away. The Park has two entrances, upper and lower, connected (other than Route 36) only by the stream and trails. The signature attraction of the park is the eponymous brook, which is an example of small, post-glacial streams in the Finger Lakes area. The small creeks and brooks in this area cut through the Great Lakes-area escarpments following retreat of the ice age glaciers, creating deep, narrow gorges, with many waterfalls, which are uncommonly accessible. As do some other parks in the region, such as Fillmore Glen State Park, Robert H. Treman State Park, and Buttermilk Falls State Park, the park features a semi-natural swimming pool, created by a small dam constructed in the lower reaches of the stream.Stony Brook became a summer tourist spot in the late 19th century, following the construction of a railroad in 1883. The resort fell into decline by the 1920s. New York state resurrected the area by buying the land and establishing the state park in 1928.

  • One of favorite camping locations. I love walking the brook! It's so peaceful. We went w a bunch of family members and reserved 4 sites. It was great. I've never had an issue here, ever.
  • It was fabulous!! the fresh fast flowing water which one could walk through formed natural whirlpool in niches that one could sit and relax in.. The ease with which one could get close to the beautiful water fall felt great .. Totally recommend it as a beautiful getaway in the heart of nature
  • Very Beautiful park. Always love coming here to hike picnic and just have fun. Gorge trail is a very nice hike with many great sites to see with some history. Great time.
  • Very beautiful state park. The swimming area was a crisp 50°, but the hiking trails were beautiful! Go down the Gorge trail if you have a chance: The waterfalls are beautiful!
  • Now this is a State Park worth visiting, even when crowded the trails are wide enough to accommodate the visitors, the staff is always friendly, and parking is always easy. There are no "tours" here that get in the way, and folks that visit the park are always courteous and friendly with other visitors. This is one of my favorite state parks in NY, this makes me proud to be a NYer.
