  • Came here during the Texas State Fair and you better put on your walking shoes! There's so much to do you will definitely have to come more than once 🎡 A variety of food, fun, and rides - there's something for everyone, all shapes and sizes! The vendor area is my personal favorite, I love seeing all the different creative things that are for sale. Be prepared to come here early and stay all day! Also, while there is parking near by, you also have the option of taking the DART train, it has a stop right at the front of the park!
  • We attended the last day of the Holiday Wonder Dallas and in spite of the light rain we had a great time. The lights displays were beautiful. The acrobatic show was exciting to watch and the vendors, of whom several were the arists themselves were so very gracious and kind. This should be annual event with advertising comparable to the Texas State Fair. It would bring in a very nice revenue for the City of Dallas each year with better advertising and attendance. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
  • An interesting place to wander around on a sunny Saturday afternoon in November. There wasn't much going on: setting up the Christmas lights around the park, but no Cotton Bowl or State Fair. We didn't learn the whole history of the site until a day later when we saw videos of the centennial exposition at the Old Red Museum downtown, but we were impressed by the art deco buildings. We visited the State Hall, which was impressive and had good exhibits on women's suffrage in Texas and immigration through Galveston. Some of the more permanent displays needed proofreading of the explanatory paragraphs. When we went to the Old Mill for coffee we found that it was closed, and we were told that it opens according to what's going one. We also visited the Dallas African American Museum, which we loved and which I'll review (5 stars!) separately. As a new Dallas resident, I thought this extraordinary site was kind of wasted when there wasn't a major event like the Cotton Bowl or State Fair going on. Seems like this could be a terrific place for events, markets, and recreation year round.
  • The fair was amazing! 😇 When buying the packages for tickets online was a big help. It helped us saved money a lot. The fair was affordable and not expensive. I thought the fried foods were delicious! I really like their corn dogs and fried pickles. I was shocked that the deep fried foot loops wasn’t that great. I like the funnel cake burger though! There was a lot of rides and events going on.🎡🎢 I would want to visit the fair more often, but I don’t have much time to travel to Dallas.
  • The Texas State fair is one of the best in the country. With a permanent location, it's nicely organized and has better facilities than other fairs do. Lots of food, rides, shows and more to do and see. You could spend a whole day or several days exploring the fair. Go to the pet show if you can. It's very well done! I give the fair a 4 out of 5 because it was hard to find specific food items. We did a lot of walking to search for some of the bizarre, yet delicious award-winning items. Make sure to get a coupon to help with the costs since it can quickly become expensive.

Where to stay in Dallas

Though the downtown area offers more high-end accommodations, the heaviest concentration of hotels in Dallas is in the northern part of the city. Staying in this area while on holiday allows you to choose from a range of affordable and comfortable lodgings just a short drive from the city's major attractions. Depending on the purpose of your visit, you may find it more convenient to stay close to the airport or near the city's amusement parks. A budget-friendly alternative, the northern suburbs offer decent accommodations and plenty of shops and restaurants.
