American Airlines Center, Dallas

4.3
#1 of 13 in Fun & Games in Dallas
Opened in 2001, American Airlines Center mixes architecture with technology for a modern, multipurpose arena. The center is home to the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and the NHL's Dallas Stars, and it also hosts large concerts and live entertainment events. The arena's high-tech, retractable seating allows its capacity to change from 18,532 seats for hockey games and 19,200 seats during basketball games to 21,000 for concerts. Take a guided tour of the arena to learn how the space is converted for different events and to see more of the building's impressive architecture. On the tour, you can visit the press box, a luxury suite, party rooms, and many other areas otherwise off limits to the public. I attended a concert here last weekend, my first for this venue. Seats were good. Transportation to the venue was easy, not so much after the show. Great sound and lighting for the show. Very pricy on...  more »

They must call it American Airlines Center because the seats are the same size as an airplane and crammed in like sardines, just like a commercial flight. No Jumbotron screen for the concert??? Confus...  more »

Fantastic venue in the heart of Victory Park and Downtown Dallas. This huge space is surprisingly easy to figure out and get around and not get lost, bathrooms are always clean, staff is always in a good mood and helpful should you have a question. The games are always good, and the special events are second to none. The sound system is loud and crisp, the air conditioner always works, and there is plenty of concessions and food to purchase without having to walk too far. The pro shops and gear available is a bit pricey, as is the food and beer, but that is to be expected from a major sports venue or stadium. You must catch a Dallas Stars, Dallas Mavericks or concert here, it's a guaranteed great night out. Highly recommended.

I attended an event at this venue back in December and have delayed writing this very necessary review. I had an exceptional experience at the American Airlines Center. I received beyond exceptional customer service from every staff member I encountered. The manner in which the staff were able to manage the high population of people was incredible. Having a professional background in event management, I can confidently say the operations of the American Airlines Center is something I have never seen executed so properly. On top of general goodness, I had to request a last minute seat change due to my guest's handicap, they were able to provide fantastic accommodations with no expectations. I want to thank the American Airlines Center for the once-in-a-lifetime experience! Keep up the good work!!

Very versatile arena in the heart of Dallas. Home of the Dallas Mavericks and Stars, the atmosphere and arena transform completely to support these events. Also commonly used as a large concert arena, great seating with good viewing from almost all angles. Very steep stadium seating means even top seats feel relatively close. One of my favorite things is the Dart station right by the arena. If you are going to pay $5 minimum for parking for any event save the hassle of driving all together and hop on the Dart. You have to walk less than even the most expensive and close parking for the arena itself.

Great venue for concerts and sporting events. Staff is always helpful. Love the sport gift shops. The one big negative about the place is there is spotty cell reception.

Great place. The parking is adequate and it is nicely designed inside so it is easy to find your way around. It was clean inside and outside the building. The food I got from one of the vendors wasn't that great but that is my only complaint.

Where to stay in Dallas

Though the downtown area offers more high-end accommodations, the heaviest concentration of hotels in Dallas is in the northern part of the city. Staying in this area while on holiday allows you to choose from a range of affordable and comfortable lodgings just a short drive from the city's major attractions. Depending on the purpose of your visit, you may find it more convenient to stay close to the airport or near the city's amusement parks. A budget-friendly alternative, the northern suburbs offer decent accommodations and plenty of shops and restaurants.
