  • Went up there on a Saturday to poke around. It truly is a fun museum and history center, packed with tons of pictures and original artwork. The folks at the welcome desk were warm and inviting and helped direct us to the galleries and their locations. So may original pictures of world famous African-Americans including: Barry Gordy, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Malcom X, Dr. King, Nina Simone and tons of others. I recommend spending a few hours here and taking a look at the wonderful artifacts that celebrate African-American history in the Dallas area.
  • My experience here at the AAM was one of excitement and absolute joy!! The art exibits I hve seen have all been wonderfully moving, educational, surprising, and brilliant! As a lover of art, I'm always blown away by the creative genius of others, and this Museum has been awesome in it's displays of art from all it's creative participants! Great job AAM.
  • If anyone thinks that the only history that black people have is slavery, they are crazy!! This 'museum' does not touch on the great civilizations of African (black) people. It does not speak of the many accomplishments of black people. Even if you want to talk about current history.. how about George Washington Carver? Ford stole his idea of mass production which is why the warehouses in which they build cars is called a 'plant'. They have made billions of dollars and did not give him credit. The first inventor of the car was the Patterson company (a black company) which created a car better than Ford's Model T. That is why Ford never got credit for inventing the car only for the MASS PRODUCTION. BUT, you have a KKK outfit? This is why you have to go to the Dallas Museum of Art to find African history. Especially, when they have any exhibits from Egypt. This is ALL African history that has been stolen. I guess when a museum is funded by the Caucasian, that is who it serves. You have gotten more history here, from this post, than in the museum
  • This is a smaller museum compared to some of the others in Dallas. What I like is that they often have a display of local art. I visited when they were showcasing art from local middle and high schools.
  • If you know African American History you will be very disappointed. Nothing about the underground railroads, Civil war, WW1 or WW2 black hero's, Jackie Robinson, Montgomery bus boycott etc. Just about anything that was taught in public school is not there. The one thing they do have there is a Klu Klux Klan uniform and some pictures of white Jesus. I assume this part of African AMERICAN history. Honestly the place is not worth paying to go see, luckily they dont charge and accept donations. This is not an museum that you would expect to be in a big city like Dallas let alone in the same area as the worlds biggest fair. I would like to honestly volunteer my free time to help this place become an museum an not whatever run down work this building has inside. Please if you see this comment please contact by email an I will gladly help make this place better!!!
