Frogtown Winery, Dahlonega

#3 of 7 in Wineries in Dahlonega
In 1998, Atlantans’ Craig and Cydney Kritzer founded Frogtown Cellars in the “Frogtown District” of Lumpkin County; a viticultural area carefully selected for quality wine grape production and outstanding mountain views.

Frogtown’s principal estate property is a 57 acre vineyard and winery complex located at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains equal distance between Dahlonega and Cleveland Georgia. This estate property is within the geographically defined “Dahlonega Plateau.” Frogtown believes the Dahlonega Plateau will soon become a recognized American Viticulture Area (AVA) in the near future.

We believe Frogtown is the most awarded winery not located in California in major US competitions, which are primarily held in California. Since 2010 Frogtown has been awarded 2 Platinum, 36 Gold, 82 Silver and 92 Bronze Medals.

On Frogtown’s 44 acres of North Georgia vineyards, in Dahlonega, 25 different wine grape varieties are planted. The red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Tannat, Touriga National, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Nebbiolo, Chambourcin, Teroldego and Norton, and the white varieties Chardonnay, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Seyval, Petit Manseng, Vidal, Greco di Tufo and Muscato are grown. In total there are 23,000 grape vines in Frogtown’s North Georgia vineyards capable of producing up to 180 tons of premium wine grapes each year. This tonnage equates to over ten thousand cases of Estate grown wine per year!

Three trellis systems are used at our North Georgia vineyards. The Open-Lyre Trellis and the Geneva Double Curtain Trellis are divided systems employing quadrilateral trained vines. These two divided trellis systems were specially selected for the growing conditions of our North-East Georgia mountain macroclimate. Frogtown also uses, on a limited basis, the vertical shoot position system, which is widely used all over the world.

  • Let me start by saying there was a wedding here the night prior and a wedding party about to arrive when we visited Frogtown. But the staff was rushed and not very friendly. Tastings start at $14 for ...  more »
  • We had the best experience tasting new wines and the service from John was amazing. His knowledge of each wine showed his passion for his job. Highly recommend this place and John as well.  more »
  • My daughters and I had lunch here followed by a wine tasting and we had the pizza which was HUGH for one person but very delicious! Wine tasting is very similar to a Napa Valley experience.  more »

  • Really cool to taste wine made locally. The atmosphere was great and all the wine I tasted was unique and flavorful. I would give 5 stars but the only criticism I will give, is the food. It’s way overpriced for what you get vs the amazing wine selection (which is definitely appropriately priced) . The pizza was I believe $18 for a personal pan pizza; I’ve had better pizza from the freezer section at Publix. In the end just don’t go here hungry and only go here for the amazing wine selection. That’s all :)
  • Had a great weekend in Dahlonega, GA. My husband and I went to a variety of wineries that are in the area. When arriving at Frogtown Cellars, we were greeted by sweet Brandy (the family dog). When arriving you may be asked if your eating lunch or tasting. I believe this is to facilitate the promptness of the service. Went straight to wine tasting which is located over the beautiful fish pond bridge. Ted was our tasting expert, and boy does he know his stuff. He was able to explain each wine tasted by my husband and myself. We had two separate flight types, His was more dry, mine was on the sweeter side, but Ted knew them ALL! He was even able to sell us on a special wine for the perfect for our friend. I strongly recommend trying out this winery. You'll love the scenic views and the knowledgeable staff.
  • As always - we had a wonderful time. The view is great and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the wine. It was a great addition to my birthday weekend! Thanks for everything!
  • Very good wines, but their bait and switch tactic to selling wine is unacceptable. They gave us a wine list to choose from and gave us samples from very expensive wines that were not on list. The more expensive wine was very good, but not a very pleasant experience.
  • So far, this place has the best wines in the areas from the ones I've been to (subject to change ;) ) If you like blends, this place is certainly for you and they do them well, in my opinion. Our tasting guide was super friendly and knowledgeable with what he was pouring. An excellent experience overall.
