Consolidated Gold Mine, Dahlonega

4.8
Strike it rich at Consolidated Gold Mine, offering underground mine tours and gold panning lessons. Located near the "Gold City" of Dahlonega, this mine played an important role in the "Georgia Gold Rush" of the 19th century. Although the large-scale mining operations folded decades ago, a section of the mine's richest shaft, known as the "Glory Hole," remains open for tourists curious about the traditional methods of panning for gold. The underground tour displays the original cart rails, electrical lines, and an operational pneumatic drill recovered from the mine's deeper levels. This tour descends about 60 m (200 ft) below ground, so wear appropriate closed-toe shoes for your visit. • Outstanding visit and a step back in time that fully explains America's 1st Gold Rush. You get to go underground and actually see how gold miners extracted to ore over 100 years ago. Top notch attract...  more »
  • We had so much fun on the tour! Even got to see a couple teeny little bats! CJ is a great tour guide and put up with my juvenile sense of humor. The panning for gold was fun (although a little cold, b...  more »

  • It was nice! The gold mines were rich with history. The tour in enjoyable and our tour guide was funny. The panning for gold and gems was fun too, especially when you find out how many flakes or what kind of gems you get. The staff was nice and friendly, all having a nice sense of humor. I would recommend to go, but it might be a little costly.
  • My wife and I enjoyed the experience. It was a very warm day and the mine was really nice and cool. They gave us some good instructions on how to pan for gold. Can’t wait to take our granddaughter back so she can go down in the mine and pan for gold.
  • Great experience with the family, I learned there is a lot of Gold in the South but it's not economically feasible to extract it because of toxic methods. The guide Jason was knowledgeable and a great presenter. We panned for gold and got some flakes saved in a vile. Overall an A+ experience fun and interesting to learn about part of America's history. Gold is an important financial commodity so seeing where it came from is enlightening. Doing research for my next book Splitting Markets.
  • Great place. Nice tour of the gold mine, tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Kids enjoyed panning for gold, which was included in the cost of the tour. We found 5 gold flakes in our pan, which they put in a tube for us to keep. It is a little chilly in the mine, 50 degrees. Wear a jacket and it is muddy, so wear boots. Our daughter is a rock collector so we paid the $30 for a bucket of gem stones. It produced a lot of rocks for her to keep. She enjoyed that the best. All the staff were very friendly. Fun little family trip.
  • The tour of the actual underground mine was fascinating, entertaining and educational. Friendly staff, great flow from one activity to the next. Surprised they weren't busier for a Saturday. Bravo Zulu (Great Job)!
