  • If you don't want to make the drive up north, or are just looking for a slight change in scenery, this is the place to go! Not only is it fairly scenic, it has tons to do! Boat rentals (kayaks, rowboats, foot pedal boats, paddleboats) are available for rental. The boats are by the causeway to the island, but you need to check out the paddles and life jackets from the visitor center at the entrance to the park. There is a swimming beach. The sandy part of the beach is small, maybe 20ft across, but there is a larger rocky shore for kids to explore. Near the swimming beach, there is a small playground, volleyball net, and horeshoes. The fishing pier looks out to a very pretty portion of the lake. There are numerous trails to hike, ranging from Prairie land to wooded areas to shoreline. We stayed at the campground there for a night in the oak grove. Within an hour of our arrival the campground host had come by to welcome us and make sure we had maps and to answer any questions we had. He showed us where his camper was if we needed anything, which was really nice. During the summer they have a kids fishing pole giveaway every Saturday for the kid campers. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I would say that the campground itself was a disappointment in that there was no seperation between campsites. It was an open field with a few trees scattered. The only real underbrush was along the lake, blocking any views of the lake from the campsites. Because it was basically a large field, even low conversations sound like they are in your tent. Bathrooms and showers were clean and nice.
  • My favorite place to camp every year! Beautiful scenery, spacious tent campsites and endless things to do.
  • I've loved going here since I was a kid but I wish they hadn't added the rv section because they cut down a lot in order to do it and it just looks like a trailer park
  • Beautiful oak-filled campground, nice hikes, great lake view.
  • Very cool place. Much to see and read historical information boards. Just passed through but spent a few hours checking everything out. Will definitely be back :-) staff very friendly and helpful
