  • This place is spectacular & Amazing what 1 man built over 50 years! Must see for yourself! Loved it. Staff were friendly and it's pet friendly. My dog was able to walk paths with me.  more »

  • Ave Maria Grotto is an unusual and different place. It was definitely worth visiting once. We happened to spend the night in Cullman between vacation stop points, and saw a flyer for the grotto. It has numerous (~200) miniatures of historical and religious landmarks, which were elaborately built over a period of many many years. They are arranged in a garden-type setting that you can walk through and enjoy. My wife and I found it interesting and enjoyed our walk-through which took about 45 minutes. Some of the miniatures are getting somewhat weather-worn, although we could also see they are working on maintaining and repainting/rebuilding them. Admission was nominal (less than $5 per person), and we were glad we went.
  • Very peaceful, the detail and scale is quite amazing. I posted Basilica of Lourdes,France because I have been there and was touched by the accuracy and attention to detail. This particular building he constructed at age 80! How talented and deserving of a few minutes of your time if you are on I65 between Huntsville and Birmingham! Catholic or not, it is worth a look!
  • This place is nothing short of absolutely inspiring and amazing. It's somewhere that you can go and spend as little as a few moments walking through or I imagine a few hours. Maybe even days. It's a spiritual pilgrimage in and of itself and is definitely worth the trip. The life's work of brother Joseph is as unique and heartfelt as it comes. I'll be back with others soon! Thank you!
  • This is a very special place. My wife and I spent a very relaxing morning here in the gardens listening to the birds singing while we were in awe of the great detail in the sculptures. What awesome dedication and attention to detail in these works of art. This is such a peaceful place, I highly recommend.
  • Main suggestion for visitors is to take plenty of time to understand the energy and commitment it took to acomplish these pieces of art, and to contemplate the religious connection each are meant to envoke. We spent far more time in the garden than expected and we still wanted to go back through again.
