Historic Site
Crown Point State Historic Site is the site of a former military stronghold at the south end of the wider part of Lake Champlain. The location is in Essex County, New York, USA. The site is on a peninsula in the town of Crown Point, New York.

Crown Point is the location of the 1734–1759 French-built Fort St. Frédéric limestone fortress and an even more ambitious British fort constructed during the French and Indian War, starting in 1759, Fort Crown Point. During the American Revolutionary War, the fort was captured by Seth Warner and his Green Mountain Boys militia on May 12, 1775, but was re-taken by the British invasion under General John Burgoyne early in the summer of 1777.

Once at the front line of the New World clash between two colonizing European nations, the two forts' ruins remain and are operated as a historic attraction by the State of New York.

  • The docent have a very informative explanatiom of the history of the forts Herr.
  • Worth a visit. I enjoyed it.
  • Amazing place for family fun. Lots of fun facts about both the Revolutionary War and French and Indian War. Also a great photo opportunity.
  • Extremely photogenic. You can park in Vermont and walk across the bridge to explore the British and French Canadian ruins.
  • If you love the French and Indian War and the American Revolutuion, or as I like to call the "North American Heroic Age" you should not miss this historical site. Eighteen miles down Lake Champlain is the rebuilt Fort Ticonderoga. Here Crown Point is left the way it is. They two totally different museums work beautifully together. Crown Point is a treasure. Here history and vision both call to you..French, British, American, Abnacki, Six Nation Longhouse People all are here. Awesome little museum building with artifacts, film and two fortification sites with descriptions and wonderful staff. Oh yeah, one other thing, it is free. Turn off the chatter and check it out.
