  • It's hard to describe and a true treasure. I could spend a week exploring it. Not a 5 star because there is some very disturbing history presented without much context or awareness. It's a lot and I can only imagine the impact on a person with Asian or Native American or Black identity. The staff were kind and full of stories about the historic shipwreck. I hope they embrace additional curation to bring more transparency and accountability to this truly special collection.
  • Local home-town museum. Lots to look at. Probably too much! Some displays are really well-done (especially the fresnel lens). Others are somewhat hodgepodge, but that's typical of a home-town museum. They even use the space in jail cells for display. A few of the displays are not easy to see because you are blocked off, or the display is behind reflective glass or behind jail cell bars. But for the price, this is a pretty nice museum.
  • This is a very nice local history museum. The highlight of our visit was the first order lens from the St Georges reef light house. It can be observed from two different floors, so you get top and bottom closeup views.
  • the building itself is a historical monument (it was previously a jail), and it’s packed full of interesting artifacts about Crescent City history. this and the North Coast Marine Mammal Rescue Center are worth a visit if you’re passing through town.
  • If you appreciate local history, you'll enjoy this place. Dedicated group of volunteers maintain the museum, create exhibits and answer questions. Nominal $3 donation to enter..
