An old military fort where you can feel the history as you walk through the different areas of this large park. There is a lot to see and do here.
The fort is managed by Nebraska Game and Parks and is a couple of miles west of Crawford, NE, right on US route 20. Surrounded by sandstone bluffs, it's a large complex (22,000 acres) with living quar... read more »
We decided to stop here on our way to the Black Hills and are so glad we did! My husband and I and our two 7 year old sons stayed here for two nights in late June. We stayed in one of the Officer's Qu... read more »
Good park. Only passing thru on the way Iowa to Yellowstone. Rolled in after 1am and got to bed by 1:20. Park was quiet and clean. Stayed for 1 nights in 2015 as well and was the same. Reliable and safe. I'd go back if there were ever a reason to be in Nebraska again.
First arrived pulling 5th wheel camper, office had no parking to accommodate long vehicles.,so we parked in the play house parking...so we could walk overover to office and get checked in...someone from the play house came out and told us we couldn't park there...my husband asked where he suggested we park ??.. He couldn't help...and insisted we move our camper because in an hour people would be arriving for a play...was very rude, hubby said if you'd quit harassing me, I could go get signed in and out of your parking area...He said no, you need to move it now...hubby just through up his hands and said too bad, then we went to get registered, that went smoothly, it's 1:30 in the after noon, we get to our camping spot and there is someone in our spot..it's not easy moving around in the tight fitting campground with a 5th wheel...so then we had to go back out and wait for another hour for those people to pack up and leave! ! Check out is at two. Drove around the park in circles trying to find a place to just park again. Then...later entire family goes for dinner (family reunion) and we arrive at 6 pm and quickly order our meals...1 and a half hours later!!!#!@@!!@ we still did not have our food...we had three small children with us...they were very hungry...smaller groups that arrived after us had already been served their meals....we ask how much longer it would be,,,she said he was putting the food on plates now...first 4 of us were served our food...another 10 minutes later 3 more for their food...and the waitress said sorry she accidentally gave away my daughter's sandwich to someone else...so it would be even longer!!!!!@#$$ we stood up and left, went back to our camper to feed her....rude people work here, no respect for the people visiting that basically pay their wages... We will never eat at the restaurant again,...other family staying in one of the large buildings.so we will cook out own meals the rest of the week..and all this happened in the first 5 hours here....we have four days left... Hope it gets better!! Or we will be leaving early.
My absolute favorite place to go! What do you like to do? Camping, fishing, golf.horseback riding, fishing, hiking, biking, history, museums, stage coach rides, tubing, theater, this place has all of this and more. This is a self sustaining state park with restored military buildings for lodging. The mess hall is now a restaurant, and there is also a chuckwagon breakfast. I would live there if I could. Highly recommended.
Had family outing for 3 day! Kids & grandchildren really loved everything to do there! Stayed in a Officers quarters house #18 it was very roomy and the price was good! Looking forward to next stay! Love the restuarant too very good food and service!
Great hiking. Very laid back and quiet. A great part of the Great Plains.
