Plaikni Falls, Crater Lake National Park

Plaikni Falls, is a waterfall located along the East Rim Drive within the Crater Lake National Park at the south end of Mount Scott, in Klamath County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. The waterfall is located in a glacier carved cliff surrounded by walls of petrified volcanic ash consequence of Mount Mazama eruption.

The location of Plaikni Falls wasn't known by many until the park constructed a new trail in 2011, making the Plainki Falls trail one of the most popular destinations along the Crater Lake Rim Drives. Full views of the cascade can be seen at the end of an easy 1-mile walk on a wheel-chair accessible trail. The trail is surrounded by old-growth fir and hemlock forests rich in wildflowers.
The name of the waterfall stems from a Native American word that means "from the high country".

  • The falls are just off the road and parking nearby. Worth the stop as the falls are right there and there is no need to hike. Pretty 100' or so drop. We stopped when Crater Lake was fogged in and we.....  more »

  • I mean... it’s beautiful but definitely not as big as I hoped. It’s more like a stream with one good access point (the actual falls) and a nice trail with many signs telling you to stay on the gravel path
  • Beautiful small falls. Easy trail.
  • About a mile hike, but mostly easy and worth it.
  • Easy hike, nice trail, and great location right by the greatest sight in Oregon!
  • A nice year round waterfall with a good access trail. It is a 2.5 mile total distance round trip hike from the trail head. The trail is wide and well maintained. The finish is pretty much and end of trial experience at the base of the falls.
