Texas State Aquarium, Corpus Christi

3.9
#2 of 12 in Zoos & Aquariums in Texas Gulf Coast
Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Texas State Aquarium, home to more than 330 animal species, hosts animal shows and educational programs as part of its mission as an animal rehabilitation facility. Many animals arrive here ill or hurt, receive treatment, and then are sent back into the wild. Peek in on many kinds of water critters, from jellyfish, eels, and crabs to stingrays--some of which you can pet--sharks, and dolphins. You'll also meet turtles, birds, frogs, and other animals. Ask about the dolphin presentations, too. Texas State Aquarium is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Corpus Christi Edition.

  • I was very excited for this aquarium because the reviews were so great. I was a little weary because the tickets were a little expensive. After buying our tickets, we went to the stands for the employees to scan them. One employee was helping another family so we went to the other employee. There were 2 standing at the podium just talking and wouldn't even look at us so we had to wait for the other employee. We went inside and saw the dolphin for my toddler to take a picture with. There were people just crowded around so we didn't know there was a line until we'd been standing for 10 minutes and an employee let us know. We started in the Gulf of Mexico and everything seemed pretty nice. Ryan(an employee) was showing people shark skin which was very interesting. He seemed very knowledgeable so that was nice. We got to the jellyfish section and there was another employee(did not catch her name) who didn't seem to know much about the jellyfish. We asked if there was anything special about them and she said "not really, they are good treats for the turtles". That was irritating. We finished that side by 12:30 and went to the 1:00 dolphin show. There were quite a few people already seated for the show. There was a lot of space between people and yet no employee made an effort to have people make room for everyone else standing. We were told to be there 30 minutes early and we were and couldn't get a seat. The employees basically had a "sucks for you" attitude about it. We then went to see other areas of the aquarium because it was way to hot to be standing directly under the sun. I was a little disappointed because most exhibits didn't have signs so we didn't know what anything was. There is also only one bathroom in the underwater area which makes for an extremely long wait. Definitely won't be recommending this aquarium to anyone.
  • The Texas State Aquarium is a fun and fantastic place to bring kids of all ages! There is a lot to learn about and there are plenty of informative and enjoyable programs to see. The staff here is amazing and are happy to answer any questions you may have about their animals. The new Caribbean Journey is top notch and boasts beautiful local birds and wildlife, as well as gorgeous marine exhibits. I definitely recommend this place!
  • Great place to spend the day with my 4 year old. The map/schedule they hand you is confusing. They need to offer a phone app to clarify the schedules. You have to go through the gift shop to get to other parts of the aquarium. Gorgeous aquariums, fun shows. Check out the bird show. I went twice and each time they had some unique animals to show.
  • Came here a while back when the dolphins section was under construction we were unable to see them but had a blast at this place!!! Everyone is friendly and love that when you ask questions they answer all of them. I like the gift shop they have and the Starbucks area is nice. Definitely will be going back in august can't wait 😊
  • The TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM is an outstanding venue. We had the pleasure of visiting the new addition and it should not be missed. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating from answering questions about exhibits to opening doors for our family. What a treat! From old to young it's very family friendly and everyone attending was having a great time. We'll be back!!
